When we talk about
nature, we are not just referring to the conventional idea of nature that encompasses forests, rivers, animals, etc. We are also embracing
humans
and the relationships all these components create as a system.
At The RegenLab, we see tourism as a fundamental tool to enhance these relationships in communities, transforming destinations into better places to live. We see sustainability as a key way to transform conventional tourism patterns. However, the current approach has not had a positive global impact, and today's tourism industry needs an
urgent paradigm
shift.
That's why here we propose to go beyond sustainability, working hands-on with a systemic approach, in which tourism organisations are seen as an agent of conscious change that cooperate with the creation of a
resilient environment, able to be self-sufficient, adaptable and regenerative.
Living Organisations
When we say living organisations, we mean businesses, projects, or even destinations. We are living systems and as such, we must understand how nature has, over centuries, created the conditions conducive to life.
We will review our resources, processes, relationships and identity so that we can harness their potential to create abundance and resilience in a systemic way.
It is essential to look inward first and see our essence, what we want to offer to the world and from where.
Our colleagues, partners, community, customers, value chain, how are our relationships, are we aligned, do we share a purpose, values?
Understand that we are nature and therefore we have to co-evolve with nature. Is our business or destiny aligned with living systems? Are we thinking in a systemic way?
For regeneration to occur as a result of the traveller's encounter with self, other and nature, tourism experiences must be carefully designed in partnership with the host community to ensure that the experience honours and aligns with its culture, customs, history and biodiversity, as well as the aspirations and desires of its inhabitants.
At the same time, this experience will be the result of a multitude of relationships that share the purpose of regenerating the ecological and social systems of the destination.
What does this mean for the traveller? A transcendental, profound and innovative experience that they will remember forever.
